The Society meets at “Willandra”, 770 Victoria Road (cnr Devlin Street) Ryde, every month from February to November. Visitors are welcome. On the second Tuesday of these months, at 8pm, a variety of speakers talk about local and Australian history. On the second Saturday at 10am, a meeting is held for those with an interest in family history. The meeting usually has a speaker, a discussion or an excursion to a venue of interest to genealogists. We have regular displays at local shopping centres of photos from our extensive photographic collection and books about our local history. Copies of all the items on show are for sale. The Society publishes a newsletter/journal, The Ryde Recorder, five times a year. It has also published a number of books about our heritage. Excursions to historic sites are organized throughout the year. Our library and archives are open for use by members between 10am and 3pm Fridays and after the family history meetings on the second Saturday of the month. We would appreciate help from people interested in historic research to carry out research in such projects as the origin of street names, a study of the early families of Field of Mars and Kissing Point and research into old homes of the City of Ryde. No experience is required, just time to carry out research in various libraries and archives. The Society is willing to carry out research in its archives. A fee of $20 will be charged for reasonable research - if longer, the applicant will be advised before the work is commenced. A fee of $5 will be charged for researchers using the Society’s archives.
